Fans were excited when Kate Martin was picked by the Las Vegas Aces as the No. 18 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft.

After a standout career at Iowa, where she was teammates with Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark, joining the two-time defending champions felt like the perfect situation for Martin.

She, however, was not given a lot of playing time by Aces coach Becky Hammon. While she suited up for 34 games, Martin only averaged 11.5 minutes off the bench. She tallied 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per outing.

Fans of the 24-year-old guard were expectedly not happy with how she was utilized in her rookie campaign.

Still, Martin, who's been praised for being a consummate teammate since her days at Iowa, has maintained her positive outlook and remains one of the more popular players in the WNBA.

Her popularity, however, also has a cost, especially on social media, where baseless rumors are aplenty.

In a promotional video for an insurance company, Martin gamely revealed a crazy accusation about her.

"The wildest thing I've heard or read about myself on the internet was that my nephew isn't actually my nephew and that I secretly had him, and he's my baby," said Martin.

Her Aces teammate, Sydney Colson, who was also featured in the video, was speechless and could only muster a confused expression.

For her part, Colson answered that she once read on the internet that she dated a man before.

The quick-witted Martin, who was enjoying the conversation, had the perfect response.

"That's crazier," she joked, eliciting laughter in the room.

The Aces saw their season end after being eliminated by the New York Liberty, 4-1, in their best-of-five semifinals.
