ESPN has hired Cam Newton to be a regular on "First Take," according to The Hollywood Reporter . While Newton’s college legacy will remain, fans seem divided over this decision.

During his 2010-11 season at Auburn, Newton not only won the Heisman Trophy but also led the Tigers to a National Championship win over the Oregon Ducks. He racked up 2,854 passing yards and 30 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,473 yards and scoring 20 touchdowns.

His NFL career included an MVP award and a Super Bowl appearance with the Carolina Panthers, but since his final season in 2021, his outspoken takes have drawn criticism.

Some examples include his reasoning for not being in the NFL anymore or his "hate" of Shedeur Sanders and Brock Purdy .

Many fans took to social media Thursday morning to share their thoughts on ESPN’s latest hire and "First Take" host Stephen A. Smith's new partner.

"Definitely not watching ESPN is a joke!" one fan wrote.

"Won't be watching that," another said.

"He's the worst , will never watch," added a fan.

"🤦‍♂️ Welp when he's on I won't be watching," said another.

"Even more of a reason to not watch that garbage show," a fan wrote.

"The most unserious show on all of television," another said.

"Sad day in television," added another.

Newton started his college career with the Florida Gators, then transferred to junior college before landing at Auburn.

In the NFL, he was drafted No. 1 overall by the Carolina Panthers in 2011. He spent 10 seasons as the quarterback for the Panthers and also one season for the New England Patriots in 2020. He last played for the Panthers in Jan. 2022.

Over his NFL career , Newton passed for 32,382 yards and 194 touchdowns while adding 5,628 rushing yards and 75 touchdowns.

All these people decrying the hiring of Cam; I bet they have zero issues watching Pat McAfee's show. But watch, they will chime in and say, they don't watch him either just to make their point and they know they will be lying.
