The full story. Of course, I think we've all heard at least a little bit about the wild story of Gypsy Rose, the 32-year old was sentenced to 10 years in prison back in 2015 for the murder of her abusive mother, Dee Dee. At the time of the crime, Gypsy’s mother had convinced everyone that her daughter was disabled, unable to walk and required around-the-clock care. It later turned out to be a severe case of Munchausen by proxy, and the severely undernourished Gypsy was not really disabled at all. And her and her boyfriend, who she had met online without her mother’s knowledge, had devised a plan to kill Dee Dee in order to free Gypsy from her abuse. She ultimately pled guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, and she got out last December and has been readjusting to normal life. And apparently, back in the day, Gypsy was a big fan of country music, and met several country stars, including
Miranda Lambert . A photo of the two of them resurfaced after Gypsy got out of prison last year, and on Theo Von's This Past Weekend podcast today, he asked Miranda about it, and she said she met Gypsy several times, and called her a "super sweet girl." Theo obviously had to ask her about Dee Dee too, and Miranda said she believed her (like everyone else did) and she was shocked when everything came out about the real situation: "Like, I believed her. I mean, I did. When all that came out, I was freaking out. Somebody texted me and was like, 'Have you seen this documentary?' I'm like 'What? What's happening?' And I've been down all the rabbit holes of it... I'm in it, 100%. Now she's pregnant, I watched all the things. she seems to be thriving. the whole thing was crazy. It was real to her. She was a child, you know? She was a baby child."
She also said she couldn't believe she "was part of that," and many other country artists met Gypsy around that time too, due to her mother's ability to "work the system": "I can't believe I was part of that, but you know, you don't know at the time. And neither did she. It was... her mom worked the system, and it worked. 'Cuz we've all met her. The whole country music community, ask any of us. She was part of it, she was in it. A lot of us. But she did, and Gypsy was very genuine, really, truly." Who knew... Gypsy made her rounds through Music City back in the day. She actually met Miranda and her then-husband Blake Shelton while being treated to the full VIP experience, getting to hang out backstage some too, and it's pretty damn wild to think about now that this story has become such a popular topic in pop culture. According to Laura Nixdorf, a family friend of Gypsy and her late mother Dee Dee, Miranda actually sent them money back in 2013 too:
"Miranda Lambert came to Springfield a few times, and I think she gave DeeDee and Gypsy money." In the 20/20 documentary, they even show the personal check from Miranda's business account, one of which was for $3,500. According to The Guardian , Miranda sent them a series of checks that ultimately totaled $6,000, likely in an effort to help ease their financial situation. I mean, she did it out of the goodness of her heart, but damn if it didn't turn out to be an incredibly insane, and tragic, story in the long run. You can watch the part about Miranda in the documentary below, it's pretty mind-blowing: https://youtu.be/JpfE3o8IriQ?list=PLQOa26lW-uI_XIueNUhdvB_AtFS62qLVJ&t=274 And that part of the podcast episode here: https://youtu.be/PedmJ4pmXHs?t=2760

They say that Deedee had Munchausen, but she was NEVER diagnosed with it by a Dr. and you can't diagnose a dead person. Munchausen was brought up by her lawyers as a "defense" .
