Bruins Fans Are Saying the Same Thing Following Thursday's Goalie Announcement

The Boston Bruins are hoping to bounce back after falling 6-4 to the Florida Panthers in Tuesday's 2024-25 NHL season opener . Jim Montgomery's team is back in action at home against the rival Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, leaving time to tell if the Bruins have what it takes to get into the win column.

Several factors went into the season-opening loss, including goaltending. Bruins netminder Joonas Korpisalo surrendered six goals on 35 shots, which had fans wondering if there'd be a change between the pipes tonight.

On Thursday morning, those change-hungry fans had their wish granted.

The Bruins announced on social media that No. 1 goaltender Jeremy Swayman will start against the Canadiens . It will be the 25-year-old's first appearance since signing an eight-year, $66 million contract earlier this week.

Swayman's absence during Tuesday's opener wasn't surprising considering all the preseason time he missed due to contract negotiations. The expectations were that he might need a week or so to return to game form , however, Korpisalo's pitiful performance may have forced a quicker debut.

If Swayman doesn't show any signs of rust, the Bruins will have one of the NHL's top goaltenders between the pipes tonight.

The former Maine product has gone an impressive 79-33-15 with a .919 save percentage (SV%), 2.34 goals-against average and 12 shutouts in 132 career appearances.

The Bruins are hoping to see Swayman continue his dominance over the Canadiens. In eight career matchups against the Atlantic Division rival, the former 2017 fourth-rounder has emerged victorious seven times while tallying a .909 SV% and 2.49 GAA.

At the end of the day, the Bruins are a better team when Swayman plays. The Boston fanbase knows that more than anyone, hence why fans couldn't contain their excitement when the news was announced.

"Should have happened last game, but I understand why they didn't," one fan said. "Let's see what happens!"

"Our Swayvior is here," another relieved Bruins supporter chimed in.

"Happy Sway Day my friends!" a third fan replied to the announcement. "I'm crying. I'm so excited, wow. The Bruins are about to start the season with a bang!"

"Maybe the rest of the team will start, too," a fourth fan replied, hoping that Swayman's presence will lead to a victory.

It's clear that Swayman's importance to the Bruins' chances of success can't be understated.

The Canadiens are feeling good about themselves after a 1-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday. If the Bruins want to prevent their rivals from growing more momentum, Swayman must bring his best to TD Garden.
