Could Gov. Landry's tax overhaul yell cut to Hollywood South?

The once bustling film industry of Louisiana has been struggling to rebound after the effects of covid and the fairly recent strikes of actors and writers.

There was measured optimism that some semblance of a return to normal would happen around the beginning of 2025.

Now with Governor Landry pushing for a special session before year's end to overhaul the tax system and get rid of tax breaks and loopholes, the lucrative TV & Film industry may have rolled its last Hollywood South credits.

Jason Waggenspeck, Film Louisiana President, says he and other industry advocates remain hopeful and agree that Louisiana could use a tax reformation.

"We appreciate Gov. Landry’s attention to the state’s tax structure. We see this as a prime opportunity to attract even more out-of-state investment from major film and entertainment companies."

However, it must be acknowledged that word is starting to get around about the proposed changes.

"We don't want that PR which is already starting somewhat. But, studios understand politics and how the state works, so we wait for a better view of what will happen."
