Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon enjoyed a sweet reunion during Thursday’s (Oct. 10) broadcast of The Drew Barrymore Show as the former co-stars looked back on their time filming their 2005 romcom Fever Pitch , which somehow landed them in the baseball hall of fame.

Fallon and Barrymore recounted the whirlwind experience they had filming Fever Pitch on the field during the 2004 World Series between the Red Sox and the Cardinals. The film, which starred the celebs as a couple struggling with the boyfriend’s obsession with the Red Sox, ends with a passionate kiss they filmed during the game. But Barrymore’s real-life boyfriend at the time, Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti, reportedly got to see it in real time.

“My boyfriend at the time, Fabrizio Moretti — hi, Fabby — he is watching this series finale of the Red Sox and there we are in the field, kissing!” she revealed with a laugh.

As Barrymore explained to the audience, they had cameras at “every single one” of the Red Sox’s games for the movie. But they were only allowed to use Fox Sports’ cameras to film their scenes during the World Series finale.

“No one [at the game] knew anything, they were like, ‘What movie?’ No one knows that we’re doing a movie and we asked Fox, we said, ‘Don’t air any of this footage because we’re just gonna use it in the film,'” Fallon said. “But then they were nervous so they just cut to us.”

Both Barrymore and Fallon appeared to have fond memories of that fateful 2004 evening. Fallon called it “the most magical year ever” thanks to the Red Sox’s stellar performance. He also noted it was the first time the Red Sox made it to the World Series in 86 years.

During a previous conversation on The Tonight Show about that epic adventure, Fallon said, “Cut to, we’re making out on the dugout or something, and [it] aired on the World Series. And everyone’s like, ‘What?! Are they dating?! What’s going on?'”

Barrymore confessed she had trouble getting in touch with her boyfriend before the rumors began to spread.

“My boyfriend at the time didn’t know, and didn’t know we were doing that,” she said. “Fabby was in The Strokes and on tour and I couldn’t talk to him because it was before cell phones. And I hadn’t got to him, and he was like, ‘What’s going on?!'”

Fever Pitch isn’t the only time the stars have shared the screen. Fallon also appeared in two of Barrymore’s later comedies, Whip It and The Stand-in . The stars also had a brief fling in 2008.

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
