Sean McDermott Preaches Controllables With Bills After Jets' Firing

Since 2010, interim head coaches are 17-13 in their first game leading the charge of their new team.

That's a reality that the Buffalo Bills are walking into Monday Night when they take on the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. With the firing of Robert Saleh, the Jets are in a position now to have interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich lead them into a game where the winner would take over first place in the AFC East.

Not the easiest environment for these Bills.

Buffalo is coming off a two-game losing streak of their own in losses to the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans. While the pressures of taking on an interim coaching staff are there, head coach Sean McDermott is sticking to the fundamentals of preparation.

“Unfortunate part of our business, number one,” McDermott said. “Two is, aware of the coaching change, and really for us, we’ve got to focus on our team and the pieces that we can control. That’s really us, in our process today, practicing and having the best practice we can have today.”

New York is considered an underdog going into the contest but they have plenty of talent available to really cause problems for the Bills.

It's why the interim coaching record in the first games should be alarming for Buffalo. They could be the next set of victims on that list.
