According to a new report by 97 X, the three SC high schools in this article are the worst-performing schools in the state. To determine which schools are the best and worst in the state, the publication used data from School Digger and looked at EOCEP test scores by the SC Department of Education - the most recent update was on Monday, August 19, 2024.

According to the report Marion High School, Lowcountry Acceleration Academy in North Charleston, and North Charleston High School were named among the worst in the state. According to the report, the student-to-teacher ratio for Marion High is 16:1, the test scores were well below state and country averages, and the number of employed teachers has dwindled over the last five years. For the Lowcountry Acceleration Academy, the school has below-average test scores - even though it is in a well-performing district.

Lastly, according to the report North Charleston High School has "been a moderately successful school in the past - but have had a rough last ten years". What makes it worse for North Charleston High School is there are public charter schools in the area that rank much higher.
