Steelers Quarterback Situation Has Davante Adams Looking Elsewhere For Trade

Per The Athletic's Tashan Reed, the Pittsburgh Steelers are still in the mix to trade with the Las Vegas Raiders for Davante Adams. However, the questions surrounding Justin Fields and Pittsburgh's quarterback situation should give the disgruntled All-Pro some pause.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Adams has the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints at the top of his trade wishlist. He prefers to play with quarterbacks he knows. Rodgers, with the Jets, and Carr, with the Saints, are the two quarterbacks he's familiar with.

On Thursday, ESPN's Dan Graziano threw out the idea of a potential swap of Steelers' wide receiver George Pickens for Adams. Jeremy Fowler replied that while Pittsburgh wants Adams, the 31-year-old playmaker's wishes to be reunited with Carr or Rodgers play a large factor in any trade scenario.

Fowler suggested the Raiders' issues at quarterback were a major reason for Adams to request a trade.

"As for Adams' desire to leave Las Vegas, my sense is the lack of a solution at the quarterback position was a factor in his decision-making," Fowler wrote. "He has been there two-plus seasons and there's no clear solution. I can't speak for Adams, but after asking around, some people in the building believe that was a big issue for him."

The situation in Pittsburgh isn't less murky, especially in the long term. All three quarterbacks on the Steelers' 53-man roster have contracts that expire before free agency next year.

Furthermore, the Steelers, like the Raiders, don't appear to have settled on a QB1 entering Week 6. Justin Fields has started in all five games this season as Russell Wilson has battled a calf injury. Fields is 92-of-136 passing for 961 yards, five touchdowns and one interception.

An average of one touchdown pass a week from a quarterback who has lost his previous two starts won't entice many elite receivers.

Frankly, there is a reason why the Steelers' current WR1, Pickens, is frustrated with the offense. The former second-round pick wore eye black with a message written on it that he is open all the time.

Why would Adams want to be shipped to another place with a quarterback controversy budding before the trade deadline?

The Steelers shouldn't be on Adams' list because their roster doesn't have Carr or Rodgers on it.

Only New Orleans and New York can say they do.
