Splash Laundromat officially opened with a ribbon cutting on October 4

A building that served as a drug store for many years in Milford has been converted to a state-of the art laundromat with apartments on the second floor. The new Splash Laundromat opened officially on Friday, October 4 with a ribbon cutting.

We’re here today at Splash Laundromat at 115 North East Front Street to welcome the Nunez family, Enrique and Veronica Nunez, and we are so excited to have them here. We have business owners that have been here for 19 years doing laundromats, starting in Georgetown, and this is the second location in Milford,” Sara LeBright, Executive Director of DMI said. “They have been married for 21 years with three children, and we are so excited to have them.”

The new location offers self-serve, laundry, wash and dry, cold service for drop off, pick-up and delivery for residential and commercial customers. Inside the facility, there is kids’ corner with books that customers are encouraged to take with them or donate additional books, There’s are tables with nearby electrical plugins so customers can bring laptops to work or so children can do homework while their parents do laundry.

“This is just another wonderful example of Milford’s growth, it’s just a wonderful, top notch laundromat. My wife, I complained about my laundry the other day, and my wife said, ‘I guess you can do your own now,” so I’m going to bring it here for wash and fold. I mean, this is wonderful,” Mayor Todd Culotta said. “This building has just meant a lot for downtown, and this conversion helps preserve a building that is historic but gives it a modern use. I believe there’s 74 washers, 67 dryers. And there’s also 10 apartment units upstairs, which goes back to our affordable housing commitment. This is a perfect example of a multi-use building that will help with residents living downtown.”

The second floor has one- and two-bedroom apartments that must be accessed with a security code. All have skylights to let in natural light, state-of-the-art appliances and an open floor concept. Rent for the apartments is between $1,400 and $1,700 per month.

“My husband and I want to everyone that is here on this special day. First, I want to start thanking God for what He has done with this project and the blessings that He has placed upon our family. Without Him, none of this will be possible. To the state for the DDD grant program that helped us to start this project, to the city of Milford for working with us to make this project happen. To Michael Hunter, he’s not here today, but I want to tell him, thank you for helping me finance this project. To Mark from Archology, our executive team, Jeff Jim Danny and all the staff from Tidemark that worked really hard to make this building look the way that it was right now,” Veronica Nunez said. “Thank you to Matt from AC power for our beautiful equipment. Thank you for my staff who have worked so hard and been there for us during the craziness. Last but not least, to our family that had supported and helped during this big project. It wasn’t easy, but God brought all these wonderful people in our life to make this dream come true. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, none of this will be possible without you.”

After the ribbon cutting, attendees were invited to tour the upstairs apartments and enjoy lunch provided by the Nunez family.
