A Fairfax-based investment group has acquired a majority stake in Beyer Auto Group.

Open Road Capital closed a deal today (Thursday) on the family business of U.S. Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.), the congressman confirmed with ARLnow.

“This is nature,” Beyer said. “This has been a wonderful business for 51 years. Lots and lots of family members involved, and my mom and dad started it, and you know, at a certain point, it moves on to different owners.”

The acquisition reportedly came with a nine-figure price tag. Beyer said he was not part of the deal and was unable to comment on its details.

“I think I can speak for the family that it’s been very fulfilling and fun to serve the car-buying public, for these five decades,” he said.

A tipster contacted ARLnow about an impending transfer about a month ago, saying, “I just got a call about the need to reschedule my appointment for service for my KIA at Beyer Kia in Falls Church City because of issues with the company AND the sale of the business.”

However, ARLnow was unable to confirm the change until today. The sale was first reported by the Washington Business Journal earlier today.

Beyer’s father purchased Beyer Auto Group’s first dealership in Falls Church in 1973. The congressman and his brother Michael Beyer are part of the second generation of leadership, according to the company’s website .

The congressman said he sold his stake in the dealerships to his brother in 2019, but kept a stake in the real estate.

“As communities develop and grow, there’ll be a need for homes or apartment buildings or office buildings or retail that are better uses than car dealerships,” he said. “So the land … might be worth much more than that 30 years from now, or 50 years from now.”

Under the new ownership, Beyer Kia and Volvo dealerships in Falls Church will remain under existing management teams, alongside Land Rover Alexandria, Beyer Subaru in Alexandria and Beyer Volvo Cars of Dulles. The dealership names will not change.

Open Road Capital owns over 30 dealerships nationwide, but this is the group’s first portfolio purchase in the D.C. area. The company did not respond to requests for comment.
