John Sterling remains one of the best to do it.

When it was announced he would return from retirement to call New York Yankees postseason games, many fans were delighted.

With the way the 2024 Major League Baseball playoffs were shaping up, his calls were guaranteed to add to the dramatics October has given us.

During Wednesday’s 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals in Game 3 of the American League Divisional Series, Giancarlo Stanton hit a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning. This was part of a hitting performance that had him going 3-for-5 on the night.

Sterling painted the picture perfectly during his radio call, referring to it as a “Stantonian” home run as he pumped his left fist.

It was the big moment the five-time All-Star not only wanted but handled perfectly. That showed as he arrived early on Wednesday to take batting practice off the high-velocity machine.

“It was an opportunity that I could take, and I did,” Stanton said after the game, via MLB.com Bryan Hoch.

Sterling also painted the victory perfectly as the Yankees took a 2-1 lead in the series.

We’re happy to have Sterling back. How long we get to hear him depends on the Yankees…
