2028 QB JJ Chapman Recaps Visit, Updates Recruitment

2028 seems like a long way away, but it's never too early to start thinking about the quarterback position, especially in today's college football landscape. The Wisconsin football team is doing just that, staying in touch with JJ Chapman, an in-state quarterback from Oak Creek who could very well see his recruitment blow up in the coming years.

As a freshman in high school, Chapman was getting some reps with starters on the Oak Creek Varsity squad, but unfortunately, his season ended prematurely after suffering an injury in his second game of the season.

Chapman took a visit to Wisconsin last weekend and took in the Badgers' 52-6 victory over Purdue. All Badgers caught up with Chapman after his unofficial visit to Madison and talked about his experience on his visit and gave an update on his early recruitment.

How did your first high school football experience go this year?

Unfortunately, I was only able to play two games. In the first game, I split reps with a junior on Varsity. I went 3/5 with 2 passing TDs and no interceptions.

The second game I was named the starter but got injured on a scramble before the half. It was a pass play that didn’t materialize and we needed the first down, so I went for it. The good news is we got the first down. By continuing to play on it, I eventually tore the ligaments in my ankle and my upper foot. We got the win though!

Obviously, you've been to games before. Was there anything different about the game on Saturday than what you've already experienced?

This was my third game-day visit so far this season. Coming off of a visit to Purdue the week prior, it was exciting to see these two teams compete. I can’t help but comment on the atmosphere. It would be incredible to play in a stadium like Camp Randall. I couldn’t help but get up and “Jump Around” even being on one foot.

Another difference was having a former Oak Creek player (Drew Braam) suited up on the sideline. Just knowing that he was playing on the same field last year that I played on this year is inspiring.

Did you have a chance to connect with any other recruits while you were there?

Being from Wisconsin, there were a lot of recruits who knew each other and connected. I spent most of my time with 2026 DB Dominick Walters who plays for my rival school, Franklin.

A few of the other recruits were 2028 Deandre Ahlen from Brookfield East, 2027 Isaac Miller, and Dustin Roach from Catholic Memorial.

Football in Wisconsin is like a family.

Where does Wisconsin sit early in your recruitment?

Being an in-state kid, Wisconsin will always be near the top of my list. with that being said, there are a lot of factors that will play into my decision-making process in the future.

Outside of UW being the 'hometown team,' what else about it draws you to the program?

Academics, atmosphere of the stadium and community, offensive scheme and being in the Big Ten is pretty sweet!

Being a local kid also brings a built in fan base.

How has the early recruitment been going?

There are a few teams that have expressed some definite interest heading into this season. Limited game film, having to sit out the opportunity to play in the Freshman All-American Bowl, and missing the majority of this season will have an impact on my recruitment, I’m sure.

The upside to that is that there is still time and hopefully these schools will see how I handle adversity.

Chapman currently holds one Division 1 offer from Toledo but Wisconsin seems to be keeping close tabs on the ins-state freshman QB.
