1 killed, several injured in crash involving UPS van in Chippewa Co.

RUDYARD — A crash in Chippewa County on Thursday afternoon closed Mackinac Trail north of Rudyard for several hours.

The call came in just before 1:30 p.m. about the crash at the intersection of Mackinac Trail and South Center Line Road.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a Subaru failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a UPS truck. The driver of the Subaru sustained minor injuries and was lodged pending prosecutor review.

Two passengers of the Subaru were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. CPR was performed on scene on the third female passenger. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Family notifications are still pending.

The driver of the UPS delivery truck was not hurt and released on scene.

The investigation is ongoing and pends medical examiner reports and prosecutor review.
