Top Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Must-Adds for Week 6

    By Michael Gallagher,

Five weeks into the NFL season and there are have been plenty of injuries to several key players around the NFL, leaving many fantasy owners scouring the waiver wire and scrambling to try and fill holes on their respective rosters.

Every week, Athlon Sports will have the five must-add players on your fantasy football waiver wire. Below is this week’s list, which has a heavy NFC East flair.

    1. Jalen Tolbert, WR, Dallas Cowboys (rostered in 32.4% of ESPN leagues)

CeeDee Lamb is Dallas’ unquestioned No. 1 receiver, but Tolbert isn’t too far behind him this season in terms of production. The third-year wideout has just five fewer receptions (25 to 20) and 131 less yards (378 to 247) than Lamb with the same amount of touchdowns (2).

Tolbert has had five or more targets in three of the Cowboys’ five games, including a career-best 10 targets, seven receptions and 87 yards in last week’s 20-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. With Brandin Cooks on injured reserve with a knee injury, Tolbert, who’s now Dallas’ de facto No. 2 WR, is worth adding as a flex option or a low-end WR2.

    2. Tyrone Tracy, RB, New York Giants (rostered in 24.9% of ESPN leagues)

Devin Singletary is nursing a groin injury that kept him out of last week’s 29-20 win over the Seattle Seahawks, and in his place, Tracy stepped in and the offense seemingly didn’t miss a beat. The rookie running back carried it 18 times for 129 yards (7.2 yards per carry), accounting for one-third of New York’s offense himself.

It’s not known when Singletary will return to the lineup, but for as long as he’s out, expect Tracy to get the lion’s share of the touches at RB. Logging 100-yard games presumably won’t be the norm for the rookie fifth-round pick, but as a player likely to get in the 20-25 touch-per-game range, he’s worth adding for players with a hole at RB.

    3. Alec Pierce, WR, Indianapolis Colts (rostered in 22.3% of ESPN leagues)

Pierce has been streaky this season — two 100-yard games with three games in between of 56 yards or fewer — but when he hits, he hits hard. He’s scored a touchdown in three of five games, and he’s logged two games with 21 or more fantasy points this season.

The 24-year-old WR also leads the Colts in receiving yards (368) and touchdowns (3) despite being the team’s third option. With news that star wideout Michael Pittman Jr. will miss multiple weeks with a back injury, expect Pierce to be featured in Indy’s offense more prominently. He could have upside as a WR2 and definitely as a flex play.

    4. Wan’Dale Robinson, WR, New York Giants (rostered in 69.8% of ESPN leagues)

After setting the NFL on fire through the first four weeks, rookie Malik Nabers missed Week 5 and there’s a chance he could miss even more time while still in concussion protocol. Nabers didn’t practice on Wednesday.

In the interim, Robinson has been the beneficiary of his absence. The 23-year-old is second on the Giants in receptions (32), targets (47) and touchdowns (2), and he’s third in yards (230) behind Nabers and Darius Slayton. Robinson has had eight or more targets in four of five games this year, and with Nabers sidelined, expect New York to keep feeding him the ball.

    5. Juju Smith-Schuster, WR, Kansas City Chiefs (rostered in 16.9% of ESPN leagues)

With Rashee Rice likely out for the season with a knee injury, the Chiefs are going to need more out of Smith-Schuster, rookie Xavier Worthy and Justin Watson. Smith-Schuster was used sparingly in the first four games, but he has a mini-breakout in last week’s 26-13 win over the New Orleans Saints, logging seven receptions on eight targets for 130 yards.

He also nearly had a touchdown before the ball was ripped away in the end zone for an interception. Smith-Schuster had a strong season during his first stint with KC back in 2022 — 78 receptions, 101 targets, 933 yards — and with Patrick Mahomes desperately needing a dependable No. 1 receiver, Smith-Schuster could be due for a career renaissance in the remaining 12 games of the season.
