New York Jets Receive More Bad News on Star Player

The New York Jets are having a trying week. Owner Woody Johnson made a change at head coach by firing Robert Saleh following the team's 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London on Sunday.

On Thursday, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich announced the Jets would pivot to have quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Todd Downing call the plays and come up with the offensive strategy, essentially handcuffing Nathaniel Hackett's duties as offensive coordinator.

During a conference call with reporters Tuesday, Johnson addressed another issue the Jets are dealing with this week. Star pass rusher Haason Reddick is continuing his holdout after New York traded for him (without a new deal in place) in the offseason.

Johnson used the press to plead with Reddick to join the team this week.

"So, Haason, get in your car, drive down I-95 and come to the New York Jets," Johnson said via ESPN. "We can meet you and give you an escort right in the building and you will fit right in and you're going to love it here, and you're going to feel welcome and you're going to accomplish great things with us."

The situation between the Jets and Reddick took another bump in the road on Thursday night. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the sports agency CAA parted ways with Reddick as the star pass rusher has forfeited over $4 million in salary in addition to league fines he's accumulated.

"Jets holdout edge rusher Haason Reddick already has missed five games, forfeiting nearly $800,000 per game, totaling over $4 million," Schefter posted on X. "On top of this, he has accumulated more than $5 million in NFL-mandated fines."

CAA dropping Reddick is a bad sign for the pass rusher's future availability with the Jets. Reddick does not appear to be close to the deal he wants to join New York this season.

CAA likely chose to stop representing the 30-year-old because Reddick's demands were too far away from what the Jets were willing to offer.

Reddick now has to worry about finding a new agent who will try to work out an agreement with the Jets' front office.
