    Maryville College alum Robert Mahley inducted into TICUA Hall of Fame

    Maryville College alum, Robert Mahley, has been inducted into the Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities Associations Hall of Fame.

    According to the TICUA press release, alumni are inducted by their institutions to honor their achievements.

    TICUA President Dr. Cameron Conn said, "As we welcome this new class of honorees, it’s inspiring to see the diverse ways TICUA institution alumni are shaping the world. Our Hall of Fame honorees have led exemplary lives of character and service and are well-deserving of recognition.”

    Mahley received a Bachelor's of Science in Biology from Maryville College in 1963 before going on to receive a Ph.D from Vanderbilt University.

    He worked with the National Institutes of Health where he was recruited by trustees of the J. David Gladstone Institutes to open a research institute in San Fransisco. He opened the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease in 1979.

    Mahley has served as a member of the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Medicine and Gladstone’s President.

    He developed the Gladstone Center for Translational Research in 2006.

    Mahley currently lives in San Fransisco with his wife.
