After winning the golden brick last year in its 12-6 defeat over rival Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, the NRHEG Panthers football team looked to defeat the Bulldogs once again to have the golden brick stay in New Richland for one more year.

That was not the case, as the Bulldogs took a 7-0 lead over the Panthers on Thursday night in the rivalry game and did not look back, as they won 21-14 to take the golden brick back to Janesville for another year.

The Bulldogs got on the board first in the first quarter on a 38-yard passing touchdown. The Bulldogs kept the lead throughout the remainder of the game as they did not trail the Panthers at all during the game.

The Panthers' defense stepped up in the second quarter though, as senior Carter Martens caught an interception and ran it back for a pick-six. The Panthers failed to convert on a two-point conversion though as the Bulldogs still held the lead 7-6.

The Bulldogs took a 14-6 right before the end of the second quarter, as the Panthers went into halftime trailing by eight points.

The Panthers were the first ones to score in the second half, as Owen Bartlett scored on a 20-yard run. Ryan Schlaak ran it in for a two-point conversion to tie the game up at 14.

The Bulldogs answered right away though on a 65-yard pass to take a 21-14 lead. That was the last score of the game for both teams as the Bulldogs came away with the victory.

The Panthers will play their last game of the season on Wednesday night on the road against the United South Central Rebels.
