Celebrities and sports go together like peas and carrots. All you have to do is look court side, in upstairs boxes or stadium seats and you will see many famous as well as familiar faces. Some of these individuals become as constant fixtures at games as much as the home teams themselves. For this reason, the HOF is choosing to immortalize more of these “SuperFans.” Next week, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame will be adding Jack Nicholson and Spike Lee (among others) to their SuperFans Gallery.

Who are some of these ultimate fans going into the Hall of Fame? Actor Jack Nicholson and Director Spike Lee are two of the SuperFans. Both have blessed NBA fans with iconic photos and now memes due to their game time expressions as well as antics.

Furthermore, there is also Alan Horowitz. Alan is such a basketball commodity he’s even garnered a nickname. The 76ers Sixth Man.

Lastly, there is actor Billy Crystal. Who has been a long time Knicks fan (since childhood) and a Clippers fan (in adulthood). Crystal has even played a NBA referee in one of his many films.

So then, it is easy to see why these gentlemen were selected for this particular honor. The Hall of Fame released a statement about the upcoming ceremony for these celebrity fans. It states:

“The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced the addition of four new SuperFans to its James F. Goldstein SuperFan Gallery. Billy Crystal, Alan Horwitz, Spike Lee, and Jack Nicholson will be recognized during the Hall of Fame’s SuperFan Celebration on Sunday, October 13 at 1:00 PM on the Jerry Colangelo Court of Dreams.

The event will be held as part of the Hall’s Enshrinement Weekend festivities, at which a new class of Hall of Famers will be inducted during a ceremony beginning at 6:00 PM at Springfield’s Symphony Hall.

‘We are excited to welcome Billy Crystal, Alan Horwitz, Spike Lee, and Jack Nicholson into our SuperFan family,’ said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

‘These individuals have not only been passionate fans but have also significantly contributed to the rich culture of basketball. Their unwavering dedication to the game and their ability to connect with fans make them truly deserving of this recognition.’”

Nice. What a great class of 2024 SuperFans. They are all very worthy of these accolades, for showing not only their support of sports, but entertaining us with their enthusiasm as well as basketball devotion throughout the years. Enjoy your big day gentlemen.
