Bukaya Saka injury update leaves Mikel Arteta and Arsenal sweating

Interim England manager Lee Carsley has confirmed that Bukayo Saka will undergo further assessment after an injury scare during England's unexpected 2-1 defeat to Greece.

The Arsenal star was given a starting position by Carsley for the Nations League fixture at Wembley Stadium on Thursday night. However, Saka was unable to complete the full match and was substituted in the 50th minute, limping off the pitch to be replaced by Chelsea forward Noni Madueke. Saka seemed to be in discomfort with a potential leg injury, which was seemingly confirmed by manager Carsley after the match.

"He's being assessed," Carsley told reporters during his post-match press conference at Wembley Stadium when asked about Saka's potential injury setback. "In the build-up to the first goal, you could see that he had felt something in his leg."

Mikel Arteta now faces a tense wait to discover the extent of Saka's injury and whether the Arsenal No. 7 will be out of action for any length of time. England still have one more Nations League fixture to play during the international break, against Finland on Sunday.

It remains to be seen if Saka will be available for that match, with an update expected in the coming days from either his club side or country. Arteta and his team will be hoping that the potential injury to Saka is not serious ahead of the return to Premier League action next week. Arsenal travel to face Bournemouth on October 19 before hosting Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League a few days later.

Arsenal are already dealing with injuries to first-team players such as captain Martin Odegaard, Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney. In addition to Saka, Germany player Kai Havertz has also emerged as a potential fitness concern with a knee injury which forced him to withdrawn from October's international break.

Liverpool.com says: Arsenal losing Bukayo Saka is akin to Liverpool losing Mohamed Salah. Saka is a fantastic player and a boost to Arsenal's title chances. An injury, however, would be costly.

Arteta will no doubt be praying it's only a minor problem and he will be back swiftly.
