Proposed Raiders and Colts trade sends a running back to Indianapolis

The Las Vegas Raiders' offense has been extremely stagnant this season, as the unit has failed to reach the 30-point mark in any game thus far and is averaging just 19.2 points per game, which ranks No. 22 in the NFL.

One of the primary reasons for the Raiders' struggles offensively is the ineffectiveness of the run game. The offensive line has struggled to create running lanes, and running backs Alexander Mattison and Zamir White have been highly inefficient.

Though White has underwhelmed through five weeks, Mattison has shown flashes and could have some upside for the rest of the season if he can get some better blocking.

With the Raiders possibly being sellers at the trade deadline, the team could look to shop the veteran running back, and CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin believes the Indianapolis Colts would be a solid trade partner.

Jonathan Taylor's medical resume is cause for concern, and with Anthony Richardson also in and out, Shane Steichen probably can't have too much rushing depth. The Raiders also have Zamir White.

If the Raiders don't turn the season around before the Nov. 5 trade deadline, Mattison should be one of the players traded. The former Viking is only on a one-year contract and isn't part of the organization's long-term plans.

Mattison's trade value is minuscule, but general manager Tom Telesco could muster a Day 3 pick for the former Boise State standout.

With Jonathan Taylor constantly injured, acquiring Mattison would be a savvy move by Colts' general manager Chris Ballard. The 26-year-old is capable of being a starter behind a formidable Indianapolis offensive line if Taylor misses time with an injury, and Mattison is also a nice complementary back due to his ability in the receiving game.
