We are the investigative team at Mississippi Today, a nonprofit newsroom focused on exposing wrongdoing and holding the powerful accountable.

We are partnering with The New York Times to tell the story of the Goon Squad, a group of law enforcement officials who abused their power. They were convicted for their roles in the torture of three people, planting evidence and filing false charges. We uncovered evidence that deputies broke into many people’s homes, planted evidence and tortured them, including some who may have been wrongfully convicted.

    • Do you know someone who was beaten or tortured by a law enforcement officer in Rankin County? Do you know someone who was exploited or victimized?
    • Do you know someone who had an officer break into their home without a warrant? Had evidence planted? Became the victim of false charges or was wrongfully convicted?

We want to hear from you. Please take the survey below or reach us by email at mjoshi@mississippitoday.org, leave us a message at (601) 533-4860, or reach out via Facebook at facebook.com/JerryMitchellReporter.

Mississippi Today has also partnered with WLBT to provide victims with more opportunities to tell their story.

I’ve lived in a number of cities in Mississippi and stayed. Without hesitation I say….Sorry Jerry but quite frankly the Rankin County Sheriff Deputies and Brandon Police are without a doubt the most professional, respectful and courteous law enforcement officers I’ve ever encountered, been pulled over by, etc. Then again I am a respectful citizen who is smart enough to know when I’m in the wrong and comply when spoken to, as well as not do drugs, run or become physically or verbally aggressive. IF you want corruption & racist blacks & white officers, I highly suggest you go to the following town/cities/counties: but not limited to: Corinth/Alcorn Co., Columbus/Lowndes Co., Starkville & MSU/Oktibbeha Co., Jackson..aka JackSIN/ Hinds Co. Have a blessed day.
