Milton: Hurricane Milton plowed through Florida late Wednesday into Thursday morning, packing powerful winds, dangerous storm surge and flooding. Gas shortages: Florida could see gas shortages for several weeks with two crucial ports for fuel still not operational in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton . About a quarter of all of the nearly 7,900 gas stations in the state of Florida do not have gas or power. Gold mine rescue: One person died and 12 people were rescued after being trapped for hours at the bottom of a former gold mine in Colorado when an elevator malfunctioned at the tourist site, officials said. The elevator was descending into the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine near Cripple Creek when it experienced a mechanical problem at around 500 feet beneath the surface.
