The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is seeing a rise in large groups of 100+ undocumented migrants illegally entering Texas from Mexico. The most recent encounter (of a group of 101 migrants) was reported by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) on October 8, 2024.

Among that group were 25 unaccompanied children ranging in age from 3 to 15 years old.

Often the apprehension of these large migrant groups comes in waves, like these incidents reported by the Del Rio Border Patrol Sector who encountered:

    • A group of 188 migrants on September 22, 2024
    • A group of 207 migrants on September 24, 2024
    • A group of 125 migrants on September 25, 2024

Of those 520 migrants encountered over five days late last month, 122 were minor children traveling alone. The agency says the majority (more than 70%) of those apprehended were either returned to their home country within a few days or are being processed for eventual deportation.

Despite these ongoing illegal border crossings by large groups of migrants, there is some good news to report from the Texas border with Mexico. Governor Greg Abbott says illegal immigration is down 87% in Texas and up in other border states like Arizona and California.

He credits "Operation Lone Star" which has surged State Troopers and Texas National Guard troops to the border, is expanding the "Border Wall" and is building razor wire barriers along the Rio Grande to make it harder to cross illegally.

Is enough being done to secure the border with Mexico?
