A teenage boy pled guilty to charges of second-degree murder and carjacking, and has received the prison sentence for his crimes.

Tayshon Holmes was just fifteen years old in July 2021 when Bill Calvin, Jr., age nineteen, went missing. The body of Calvin was not found until October 25th, 2021 by Adams County Sheriff deputies in a wooded area near Morgantown and Booker Roads.

According to The Natchez Democrat, Sheriff Travis Patten and his deputies worked with cadaver dogs, as well as technology made available through the Concordia Parish of Louisiana to locate Calvin's body. They were able to ascertain at that point that Holmes was the person responsible for Calvin's death via a gunshot wound to the head.

Holmes was indicted for the crime by an Adams County Jury.

Holmes was also involved in a carjacking that took place in January 8th, 2024, when he, along with two other juveniles escaped from the Henley-Young-Patten Juvenile Detention Center in Hinds County. The escape took place overnight on January 7th, and the three stole a van and made way for Natchez.

The three young men were loose in the city for nearly four days before being apprehended by Natchez Police, Adams County Sheriff deputies, and a number of other law enforcement officers from surrounding areas.

Holmes was given a forty year sentence, with thirty years to serve on the homicide charge. He was also sentenced to ten years for the carjacking charge, which will run concurrently to the homicide charge.

The other young men involved in the carjacking have also submitted guilty pleas. One has received a sentence, and the other is awaiting an investigation before his sentencing.
