Didn't think it possible for this song to get any better? Guess again... I've been such a fan of Evan Honer even since he burst on the scene with his cover of the Tyler Childers tune "Jersey Giant" back in 2022. His 2023 debut album West On I-10 is stellar and his 2024 follow up, Fighting For, just continued to prove that Evan is talented beyond his years. Compelling vocals with thought-provoking lyricism, he has such an ability to smack you in the chest with a song. Perhaps no better example is his song "Mr. Meyers," a gut-wrenching story of an older man who lost his wife, and feels completely lost without her. The song was first released on his Fighting For
record earlier this year, and today, we're getting the rich vocals of Charles Wesley Godwin on a duet version. Honer calls it an honor to work with the West Virginia native: “I first heard ‘Seneca Creek’ in 2021 and I’ve been a fan of Charles ever since. I had the pleasure of hearing him open for Zach Bryan in 2022 and was blown away by his stage presence, energy, and how tight his whole band was. He’s got one of the richest voices I’ve ever heard and he’s been an inspiration for a long time now. To have him on this song means the absolute world to me. I wrote ‘Mr. Meyers’ in my car outside of my college dorm. This song means so much to me and I am so honored to sing this song with one of my favorite artists!” Charles added: “I’ve always been a fan of songs that tell a story, so when Evan approached me about singing on ‘Mr. Meyers’ it was an easy yes. I think it speaks to a sort of universal fear that people have but don’t talk about much, similar to John Prine’s ‘Hello in There.’”
Like I said before... I wasn't sure there was a way to make this phenomenal song any better, but I stand corrected, this is fantastic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qO8xT1j8Ajc&list=OLAK5uy_nfTksSkCC_moh7kRfRwWxvlwy6rwIZkV8&index=1
