Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) lambasted former President Donald Trump for his recent insult directed at her swing state's most populous city.

Whitmer appeared on CNN Friday morning to respond to Trump's off-color warning at the Detroit Economic Club that the nation would resemble the city hosting him should Vice President Kamala Harris win the 2024 presidential election.

"For Donald Trump to come in and then crap all over the city shows he's out of touch, he's dangerous and he's full of it," Whitmer said on CNN. "There's so much good stuff going on in Detroit."

Whitmer was not the only Michigan resident to express outrage after Trump claimed Thursday night, "The whole country is going to be like — you want to know the truth? It'll be like Detroit."

Michigan state Senate Majority Whip Mallory McMorrow almost immediately replied on social media, "As a proud elected representative of tens of thousands of Detroiters: F--- this guy. Don’t come back."

CNN anchor Kate Bolduan Friday morning expressed surprise that Trump continues to gain support in such states even as he makes derogatory remarks about their biggest cities.

"Why then is still so tight in Michigan?" she asked.

    Whitmer pointed to Trump's rhetoric.

"We know that his ugly and divisive rhetoric has taken a toll," Whitmer said. "A lot of people are turning out because it's so toxic, thanks to Donald Trump."

This is not the first time this election cycle the Republican presidential nominee has insulted a large midwestern city hosting his campaign.

Trump reportedly called Milwaukee " horrible " just days before he was slated to accept his party's nomination at the Republican National Convention.

Do you know Orban offered his military to use against us to Trump, along with Putin and NK.? While You are busy defending the bastard who orchestrated it. Even Clarence and Jinny spent a week at Putins Palace. Hello wake up, they will strike because he’s gonna lose and it’s gonna happen, they have already said it. Who are you gonna fight for Trump and Putin or Americans whether Dem or Republicans. This crap has to stop. We will lose. I’ve estimated he’s gathered access to over 6 million soldiers. How do you think we will stand against that? Trump is distributing anti American tapes of himself to our adversaries calling for our Capitols to be nuked and our heads on a platter. Carlson same thing. They have made them believe Trump was robbed because people keep saying it. Harris/Walz 2024
