CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Ah, Halloween. A time for costumes, parties, and lots and lots of candy.

For some children with disabilities, though, the atmosphere surrounding the lively holiday can be a stumbling block.

    But not this year.

Kanawha County students with disabilities will have their own Halloween event to look forward to, thanks to an upcoming Fall Festival sponsored by the county school district.

On Thursday, Oct. 17, Kanawha County School’s Office of Exceptional Students will host an information fair and trunk-or-treat event for all students with disabilities and their families. The affair, which takes place from 5:30- 7:30 p.m., will be held at Capital High School, 1500 Greenbrier St. in Charleston.

The Fall Festival is designed as a fun-filled experience, but it also serves as a way for families to connect with community resources that help individuals with disabilities. Representatives from several local agencies will be on hand at the Fall Festival to answer questions and provide information, organizers said. Some of the organizations planning to attend include:

Children may wear costumes to the event, if they choose to do so. However, costumes are not required.

Anyone with questions may email sechandler@mail.kana.k12.wv.us for more information.
