Swifties might need to calm down. Kayla Nicole , the ex-girlfriend of Travis Kelce , opened up about how she’s handled the backlash from diehard Swifties after Travis began dating Taylor Swift .
“I’d be lying if I said that that level of hate and just, like, online chaos, doesn’t impact me. It does, even to this day,” Kayla, 32, told Angel Reese during the Thursday, October 10, episode of the “ Unapologetically Angel ” podcast. “You can go to my recent post and it will be people debating each other why I am worthless and I’ll never be a talented person and I have no career.”
When Angel, 22, asked Kayla why she believed people would attack her like that because she left her relationship with Travis, 35, “with grace,” the sports journalist said “it had nothing to do with [her].”
Kayla continued, “I think there’s something about that level of fame that attracts crazy people, and it’s unfortunate because I’ve never done anything to warrant that kind of backlash.”

As for whether Kayla would ever be a part of another public relationship, she admitted that it seemed unlikely and something she didn’t see herself doing “anytime soon.”
The former Lakers host also touched on where she stands with her NFL ex and some of the lessons she learned from their relationship. Kayla explained that while she and Travis might greet one another “with a head nod” if they see one another, their interactions don’t go any further than that.

“I think that we’re both aware of the nature of his new situation [and] there’s just no room for us to communicate or acknowledge each other publicly without it being spun into something crazy,” Kayla said. “He’s a great guy and that was a good time in my life. So many lessons learned, but that’s with every relationship. I’ve learned a ton from every relationship I’ve been in.”
Kayla and Travis originally connected in 2017, shortly after he broke up with the winner of his reality dating show, Catching Kelce . The Super Bowl champ liked some of Kayla’s Instagram posts before she reached out to him. After getting together, Kayla and Travis hit several red carpets together, including the one for The Maxim Big Game Experience at Atlanta’s The Fairmont the night before Super Bowl LIII.
In August 2020, the former couple hit their first bump in the road when they split after rumors swirled that the Ohio native had cheated on Kayla.
“This is fake news … a lie … and not why Kayla and I broke up … take all your hatred somewhere else please,” Travis wrote in the since-deleted post via X.
However, by November 2020 the pair had reunited and were seemingly back together. Over the next few years, Travis and Kayla enjoyed the holidays together, as well as a vacation in Las Vegas with friends Patrick and Brittany Mahomes .

In May 2022, Kayla and Travis split for good. At the time, Barstool Sports reported that their breakup was allegedly due to the Kansas City Chiefs star forcing Kayla to go 50/50 on all of their expenses to prove she wasn’t dating Travis for his money. Both Kayla and Travis claimed there was no truth behind the rumors.
