As Sean “Diddy” Combs continues to drown in legal turmoil and professional obliteration, his legal team has filed a motion for an evidentiary hearing, accusing the government of colluding with the mainstream media to bring him down and destroy what’s left of his reputation as a mogul and pillar of the culture, undermining his right to a fair trial.

According to Variety , the memorandum filed Wednesday, the “government’s scheme” includes numerous attempts to ensure that the Bad Boy founder will not be treated fairly in a court of law, and it asks the court to rectify the situation, which might include disqualification of witnesses, the suppression of video evidence, and even the complete dismissal of all charges in his indictment.

One thing Diddy’s attorneys appear to be blaming the government for is the leak of the video of him viciously attacking his then-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura.

    From Variety:

In the memorandum, they point to four different tactics of government misconduct, with the most egregious being the CNN leak of Combs allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura in 2016. His lawyers state that neither Ventura or a third party were likely sources of the leak, as Ventura would have described it more in detail in her sexual assault lawsuit and a third party would have tried to sell it. Thus, they point to the government as the most viable culprit given the timing of the tape’s release.

Yeah — you know your case is looking pretty abysmal when your lawyers are filing a speculative motion that essentially says: It’s the government’s fault for showing the world that I’m a monster.

In fact, it almost seems like Diddy’s legal team is taking its cues from the conspiracy theorists’ corner of the internet, where whataboutism is treated like legitimate critical thought and virtually everything is a “distraction.”

    More from Variety:

They state that federal agents must have known in advance that there would be a break in Donald Trump’s hush money trial for the former president to attend his son Barron Trump’s graduation and that the timing of May 17 was “a perfect time, as it was a slow news day.” After CNN broke the video, counsel claims that the government took no further action, and is asking for an evidentiary hearing to determine if an agent provided the tape to CNN.

Of course, none of that would explain why the government would have any stake at all in the outcome of Diddy’s case. It’s not like Diddy is Malcolm X or a top-ranking member of the Black Panther Party. He’s not even Tupac. The most glaring logical point missing from the hotepian narrative that “the powers that be is always trying to bring a powerful Black man down” is that the Black man in question is always somebody like R. Kelly, Bill Cosby, or, in this case, Diddy, and none of them have ever been viewed as threats to the system. They’re not radicals or even activists. Why the hell would the government go into full COITELPRO mode for any of them?

Anyway, Diddy’s team is also accusing the government of plotting against their client by conducting the raids on Combs’ Los Angeles and Florida residences in broad daylight in an intentional effort to maximize media exposure. The attorneys claim that during the L.A. raid, which occurred back in March, news reporters were on the scene “before the crime scene tape was put up,” suggesting that the Department of Homeland Security alerted the media in advance. The motion also accuses the government of victimizing Combs’ children by subjecting them to a perp-walk in full view of the media. The attorneys accused the DHS of trying to “savage Mr. Combs’ reputation prior to trial” through the use of numerous leaks besides the Cassie video over the past seven months.

It’s unclear when the presiding judge will rule on the matter, but it feels like a long shot. We’ll see what happens though
