Senior Golden Retriever 'Talks' with His Paws Instead of Barking & It's Too Sweet

Senior dogs have the sweetest ways of going about life. Time slows them down, sure, but whatever their physical limitations, there's still a joyous, full-of-life puppy inside waiting to get out. Jake the Golden Retriever has been around for 17 years, so his voice needs a rest. But his new way of communicating with his paws is too adorable.

Have you ever seen a dog use their paws to "talk?" Take a look at sweet Jake telling Mom he wants to play with the slightest paw movements. He's too precious!

"He doesn't speak, but he sure does say a lot," the caption by @tasharyland says in the most precious clip, maybe, of all-time. Jake, who is over 17 years old, has a special way about him, and using his paws to speak takes the cake. His gentle nature and contagious smile more than make up for what he lacks in physicality from aging, but his beautiful spirit is captivating people all around the world.

"I’m showing my dog this so she knows she better live up to this age," one person joked.

"Just the most precious angel there ever was," another added.

"It takes a long time for a soul to become this sweet," another said.

Like all dogs, Jake deserves to live forever. He's too pure! We must protect this sweetie at all costs. Period.

    Caring for Your Senior Dog

Senior dogs have the kindest souls. A lot of life sits behind their eyes, and so does their love for us. As a pet parent of a senior dog myself, I recognize all the ways our care routine differs from that of our younger pup. Bond Vet explains senior dog behavior might change as they age, but there are things you can do to ensure they're living their best lives.

The most obvious is to make sure they're seeing a vet regularly to prevent issues before they begin. Also, don't change routines around unnecessarily to avoid them becoming confused or disoriented. At the same time, adjust and modify your home for their comfort, especially if, like my senior, they have joint and mobility pain. Things like nonstick mats and doggy pee pads go a long way.

For aging dogs, grooming, exercise, and potty breaks may all change. They might need more regular nail trims but less exercise, and they may need more potty breaks than usual. Try brain games to keep their minds sharp, and a safe, quiet space to rest when they need a break from the noise of the house.

Older dogs need a bit more patience, but in return, they'll give you all the love in their minds, bodies and souls. Just like Jake gives his mom; like my dog gives me.
