If you're planning ahead and want to see the Texas Longhorns take on the Texas A&M Aggies in the regular-season finale on November 30th at Kyle Field, you might want to jump on tickets now. Or just settle for catching the game on your couch or at some perpetually extended tailgate party. With a begrudging hat tip to OutKick for exposing me to this unsavory information, the prices to attend this Lone Star State college football showdown are absurd. https://twitter.com/Outkick/status/1844739035480113157 Citing SeatGeek's latest listings for tickets at Kyle Field, we're still more than a month and a half out from the game, and if you include the fees associated with purchase, the very cheapest you can get for basically nosebleed seats is still over $700. At the time of this writing, the least-expensive face-value ticket I can see is $563, but that's before taxes, fees, and what have you. Tack those on and it's freaking $770 on the lowest end. OutKick states that the median ticket goes for $1,600 — with the priciest option at a whopping $12,707. I get that Texas is the No. 1 team in the country, and that they'll be starting either potential first-round pick Quinn Ewers or
football royalty Arch Manning at quarterback. That's worth a hefty price of admission on its own. And yes, it's the last game of the season between two in-state foes. On the other hand, let's take the NFL for instance. The better-than-expected 2-3 New York Football Giants are hosting the Cincinnati Bengals on this week's edition of Sunday Night Football . A standalone prime-time game. Yes, it's technically in New Jersey , but we're still talking about the New York sports market. To be fair and use SeatGeek as the source here again, I see that you can get a seat very close to the action, right on the 50-yard line, for $429 before all the fees, or $577 with them. Getting to see an elite QB like Joe Burrow in the Broadway spotlight from that close up? For that price? Look at how surgical Joey B is in 2024. https://twitter.com/JoeGoodberry/status/1844551364044574832 Not that I'm a hater on college ball, and I'll admit some bias as a Bengals fan, but say it's Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson,
Patrick Mahomes , or any other stud QB of their ilk coming to play the G-Men. I'd fork over the cash for that 100 times out of 100 over paying out the eyeballs to watch Ewers/Manning take on an Aggies team that was barely clinging to the AP top 25 until last week's admittedly impressive win over Mizzou. Money is flying all over the place in college football with the transfer portal/NIL dynamic and the associated arms race between big-time programs' boosters. But like, Texas A&M isn't some bastion of excellence. The Aggies' only exceptional season since Johnny Manziel left College Station (his last year was 2013) was the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign, where they got shut out from the College Football Playoff and finished fourth in the last AP poll. Only one other time since the Johnny Football era has A&M ended a season in the AP top 25. How is it, then, that the Aggies can charge such a ridiculous amount for tickets for their tilt with the Longhorns? I haven't the slightest clue. But that to me is a sign of the shark being jumped. The plot being lost. Or to put it in simpler more contemporary terms, these college football tickets are "CAP." Just further proof that Johnny got screwed as much as anyone for not playing during the NIL era. The amount of money his singular presence continues to print for the Texas A&M program is straight-up stunning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGnSOJswnK8
