(Photo: Zamani Feelings)</figcaption></figure>Temple field hockey is nationally ranked and on a roll as the Owls look for their sixth straight win when they host Providence at Howarth Field on Friday afternoon.A victory would match Temple's longest winning streak since 2007 and strengthen its chances at a best-ever regular season finish since joining the Big East in 2013.Coach Michelle Vittese's squad entered the NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll this week at No. 20 following its recent string of victories, which included three straight wins over ranked foes Old Dominion, Monmouth, and Liberty. Last Sunday, the Owls (7-4) beat Wagner, 2-1, in double overtime.ODU and Liberty are Big East opponents, and those two victories were gigantic not only because the Monarchs were ranked 18th when the Owls beat them, 1-0, in overtime on Sept. 27th and the Flames were ranked 18th when the Owls torched them, 5-1, last Friday in Lynchburg, Va.Temple had lost a combined 20 consecutive games to those two teams going back to 2016, and one or the other had knocked the Owls out of the Big East Tournament each of the past three years.Fifth-year midfielder Myrthe Schuilenberg scored her only goal this season off a pass from junior midfielder Peyton Rieger early in the extra period to gain the win over ODU. Rieger and senior midfielder Tess Muller both scored two goals and each had an assist in the win at Liberty.This marks the fifth time that the Owls have been ranked nationally since Vittese became head coach in 2021. Furthermore, Temple is 23rd in this week's NCAA RPI rankings. The highest-rated teams it has beaten are Monmouth (22) and Liberty (24).As far as the Big East is concerned, the Owls dropped a 2-0 decision to seventh-ranked UConn in their conference opener on Sept. 20. That result snapped a three-game win streak that Temple had enjoyed in the series during Vittese's tenure.Entering the latter half of the Big East schedule, UConn is 3-0, ODU is 3-1, Temple and Villanova are 2-1, Liberty and Providence are 1-2, Georgetown is 1-3, and Quinnipiac is 0-3. Four teams advance to the Big East Tournament.Temple has finished 4-3 in conference play each of the past three seasons and has lost in the Big East semifinals each year. Since moving from the Atlantic 10 to the Big East in 2013, the Owls have never finished more than one game above .500 in league play. They did advance to the Big East title game in 2014 and 2015, losing to UConn on both occasions.The Owls dropped a 2-0 decision at Providence last season. Friday’s game will start at 2 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN+.</div></body>
