The 2024-25 season is proving to be an especially taxing term for clubs all across the world. Due to a sudden increase in overall matches, multiple players have started to contract varying fitness issues. The latest high-profile casualty of this phenomenon is Arsenal‘s Bukayo Saka, who sustained an injury while on international duty. But what actually happened to the England National Football team youngster?

Here are all the available details regarding the winger’s latest ailment, including his expected return.

How did Bukayo Saka get injured while playing football?

Bukayo Saka suffered from a leg injury in England’s recent UEFA Nations League defeat vs Greece.

The 23-year-old forward seemingly hurt his leg while the play for Greece’s first goal was in progress. Interim England National Football team coach Lee Carsley provided this update in a post-match conference: “In the build-up to the first goal, you could see that he had felt something in his leg.” As such, he was substituted in the 51st minute, with Chelsea’s Noni Madueke coming on as his replacement.

When will Bukayo Saka return to play?

At the time of writing, the extent of Bukayo Saka’s injury remains unknown. Therefore, it is difficult to estimate his return to fitness as of now.

The English forward is expected to undergo further tests, which would provide more clarity on his current condition. Following England’s 2-1 loss vs Greece, Carsley confirmed that “he’s being assessed.” Due to his injury, Bukayo Saka will most likely miss his side’s final Nations League bout before the conclusion of the ongoing international break.

The FA Cup winner now joins the ever-growing injured list at the Emirates. This list comprises Martin Odegaard, Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Kieran Tierney. Arsenal are scheduled to play Bournemouth in their next Premier League fixture and will hope Saka will accompany their traveling squad next Saturday.
