From Punta Gorda to Englewood Beach and beyond, Hurricane Milton took a heavy toll as it roared inland from the Gulf of Mexico Wednesday night.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of boats lay strewn about on roadways, in back yards, side yards and front yards. Piers and docks were demolished.

The Englewood Baithouse at the foot of the Tom Adams Bridge on Beach Road in Englewood appears to have been flattened.

And the storm created a new pass from Lemon Bay to the Gulf of Mexico, that cuts through Stump Pass State Park just south of the parking lot.

Capt. Josh Olive, our WaterLine Publisher, took some photos at ground level and with his drone Thursday afternoon to bring a perspective to the storm's damage to the area and the boating community.
