With the Cougar fanbase still buzzing over the reveal Wazzu is traveling to Ole Miss next October, <a href="https://247sports.com/coach/Jake-Dickert-4455">Jake Dickert</a> hinted Thursday on his radio show that further schedule news should be coming shortly."I saw on social media they were already putting out to stockpile beers, the Cougs are coming," Dickert quipped about the Ole Miss game. "There are some Auburn stories that I don't know about that I guess I have to be refreshed on. But it's elite competition. That's a top-1o, highly-recognizable team. A team that will probably be in the College Football Playoff this season. What a challenge to go on the road in their place."We're putting together a schedule and there should be more news coming out here in a week or two on the next five opponents."Wazzu is headed to Oxford on Oct. 11, marking its first trip to an SEC school since playing at Auburn in 2013. As the story goes, Cougar fans drank an Auburn bar out of beer in '13.DICKERT AND THE COUGS are coming off their first bye and used some of the time last week for a young-on-young scrimmage, with Wazzu's up-and-comers playing a live game against one another.That even included contact on the quarterback and everything else that would happen in a normal football game.From the game, two players stood out to Dickert."<a href="https://247sports.com/Player/Malachi-Wrice-46144266">Malachi Wrice</a> has just been incredible," Dickert said. "A defensive end from Oklahoma. We found him about this time last year, just a long skinny kid running around and playing. He's proven to be one of those guys that's going to be really good."<a href="https://247sports.com/Player/Josh-Joyner-46118424">Josh Joyner</a> at tailback. You see the three big, physical guys we have (playing), he's about 5-7, 150 pounds and a bottle of lighting. He'll be lightning to that thunder as we go."THERE WAS NO GAME this past Saturday but the Cougs still had quite an afternoon. WSU hosted the Pullman Jr. Greyhounds on Rogers Field and gave the crop of young football players an opportunity to spend time with the team and learn from the players."It was like the Super Bowl," Dickert joked. "Just an honor to host athletes of this caliber. It was fun ... the third and fourth-grade team, they're undefeated at 4-0. The fifth- and sixth-grade team, they're undefeated at 5-0. It's been a heck of a season for these groups. Not only for my son but <a href="https://247sports.com/coach/Justin-Mesa-5054">Coach Mesa</a>, our special teams assistant, his son plays. <a href="https://247sports.com/coach/Mark-Atuaia-2206">Coach Atuaia's</a> daughter plays, <a href="https://247sports.com/coach/Ben-Iannacchione-4436">Coach Iannacchione's</a> son plays. "And we hosted a clinic too. It wasn't just allowing them to practice on our field which I knew was super cool for all those kids. We took them through stretching, offensive drills, defensive drills ... we had about 50 of our players out there helping and coaching. The smiles on their faces were even better than the smiles on the kids' faces. Every kid got to leave with our patented juice box, 'If you're juiceless, you're useless' t-shirt."There is no local pro team but the youngsters playing football in Pullman tend to idolize the Cougar players. And while Dickert will joke about the phenomenon, he also knows the importance of it, and the lessons it teaches his players."Kyle Williams gave one of these guys a pair of gloves," Dickert said. "The fingers are this far beyond his capability. But you couldn't pry the gloves off his hands. I saw a couple of John Mateer headbands on these kids. But it's a great example for our guys to understand the impact that they have. Not just out there on social media, but to these kids.
