Non driving offenses in Virginian can cost you your license

Prior to 2019, if you had unpaid court costs and fines to the state of Virginia, you would lose your driving privileges. This hurts those who have been released from prison and have not yet found a job to earn money to pay back the fines.

This law was repealed, but there are others that can keep you off the road. Virginians can lose the right to drive for other offenses unrelated to being behind the wheel.

Hopewell's treasurer had a hold placed on her license because she failed to pay personal property taxes. She has been arrested for using her office computer to remove the restriction.

Others in the Commonwealth have revoked their licenses because they were late paying personal property taxes. Virginia.com reports that if you fall behind on child support payments, your driving privileges automatically become revoked. The moral of this story is to pay your taxes and child support on time.
