Faribault girls tennis hit the road on Thursday morning, taking part in the 1AA Sub-Section A Individual Tournament, picking up a first round win in doubles action before losing to close out the season.

Overall, Leah Nowaczewski and Whitney Huberty represented Faribault in singles play while the teams of Grace Brazil/Anika Sterling and Gabbie Temple/Carmen Puente represented Faribault in doubles action.

At doubles No. 3 seed Grace Brazil and Anika Sterling played TCU’s No. 14 seeded doubles team of Addison Houn and Christina Cruz. The Falcons winning the match 6-2, 6-4.

“Grace and Anika were serving very well today allowing the net player to be aggressive,” Falcons’ coach Jeff Anderson said. “They did well to control many rallys in the first set and moved the ball around the court pressuring TCU into playing defensively much of the set ... in the second set, with both teams playing well and having a few too many unforced errors, they traded games to a 4-4 tie. Grace and Anika did well to hit well place shots for the next two games allowing them to win the second set and the match.”

The duo of Brazil and Sterling would go on to lose to Owatonna’s No. 6 seeded pairing of Lauren Nelson and Hannah Nelson 2-6, 4-6.

At No. 13 singles Leah Nowaczewski fell 0-6, 1-6 to Emma Herzog in singles action while Whitney Huberty fell at the No. 14 singles spot to Chloe Regal 0-6, 0-6.

Also in doubles action, the team of Gabbie Temple and Carmen Puente fell as the No. 8 seed to the No. 9 seeded team of Elsa Mitchell and Kate Sand 1-6, 0-6.
