Hoda Kotb may be leaving the Todayshow, but she assured fans that she won’t be stepping out of the spotlight by announcing her new project.
“I have something that I am super excited about that’s in its infancy,” Hoda, 60, told People about her upcoming plans in a story published on Friday, October 11. “It’s a whole wellness situation, and I got lit up by that just from stuff I’ve been working on and doing on myself.”
Hoda then explained that she’s “learned to do a bunch of different things with breath works and what not through friends,” including Jenna Bush Hager, Maria Shriverand more. “And I’ve been loving it,’ she shared.
The broadcast journalist said that the project is still in the early stages of getting a “really good wellness app together and do wellness retreats and things like that.”
“I think it would be, number one, fun, and number two, helpful,” Hoda said. “When I learned some of these things, I was like, ‘Wait, why do I feel like my baseline feels less stressed? Why do I feel this way?’ So I was talking about this stuff, and so the more you’re interested the more you go down kind of that path.”
While her latest business venture is still “down the road,” Hoda said “it is something that I’m excited about exploring and seeing what’s out there.”
“As I write this, my heart is all over the map,” she wrote in a letter to her NBC coworkers about the decision. “I know I’m making the right decision, but it’s a painful one. And you all are the reason why. They say two things can be right at the same time, and I’m feeling that so deeply right now. I love you and it’s time for me to leave the show.”
After admitting she had been “weighing this decision for quite a while,” she said she had a realization on her 60th birthday. “I saw it all so clearly: my broadcast career has been beyond meaningful, a new decade of my life lies ahead, and now my daughters and my mom need and deserve a bigger slice of my time pie,” Hoda continued. “I will miss you all desperately, but I’m ready and excited.”
“My time at NBC has been the longest professional love affair of my life,” she added in the letter. “But only because you’ve been beside me on this twenty-six-year adventure. Looking back, the math is nuts. 26 years at NBC News – Ten years at Dateline, seven on the seven o’clock hour, sixteen on the ten o’clock hour. I’m picturing your faces and your families and all the ways you’ve lifted me up and inspired me. That’s my heart singing. So many of my professional relationships have become some of my most cherished friendships.
Fans don’t have to say goodbye to Hoda quite yet, as her exit from the show won’t take place until January 2025.
