The Oklahoma Sooners are trying to constantly get better for the future, even while worrying about the present. With the Red River Rivalry coming on Saturday, it will be a great opportunity for them to show their committed players, Texas' committed players, and the players they are targeting why those players should want to come to Oklahoma.

One of the players they are targeting in the 2027 class is starting to be a player that they really want, and other schools will, too. In fact, a lot of eyes are about to be on him, as he now is a national record holder.

On Thursday night, OU Insider's Parker Thune traveled to cover a game in Shreveport, Louisiana, which featured 2027 four-star quarterback Peyton Houston, who has offers from the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Longhorns , Miami Hurricanes , Ole Miss Rebels , Arkansas Razorbacks , Texas A&M Aggies , and the Tennessee Volunteers , just to name a few.

So far, he looks to be the real deal, and his performance on Thursday night against another good school in Louisiana could only propel him higher in the 2027 ranking. In fact, it should, because he is now a national record holder.

According to Thune and others, Houston broke the record for passing yards in a game of any high school player ever. You read that and you may think it was like 600 yards, or something close to that. Nope -- try over 800 passing yards.

According to Thune, Houston finished with 817 passing yards on 53/68 passing for seven passing touchdowns. He also had 107 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. There are currently some arguing that he had a touch under 800 passing yards, but the official seems to be over 800, which is still a record that no one has ever done in high school football.

Houston is a kid that the Sooners are targeting and already have an offer sent to. They want him, and after this performance, which will likely make its rounds around the college football world, he will probably get more schools interested in him.
