An Australian Shepherd is determined to steal the family's steak from the kitchen counter, and his method is giving people giggles.

On September 19, 2024, Booker the Aussie Pup (@booker_the_aussiepup) shared a video of the dog's funny steak-stealing attempts. Take a look!

In the cute clip , we not only see a really adorable Australian Shepherd but also witness just how clever this pup is.

Booker is an Australian Shepherd, which means he's a medium-sized dog —not too big. Add in his intelligence, and you get a funny mix of adorable and clever. Booker used these two to his advantage to attempt to steal his parents' dinner off the counter.

"My Australian Shepherd doesn't see obstacles, just challenges," the text on the video reads.

In the video, Booker stands on his two back legs and his two front legs, holding himself up as if he were born to walk upright on two legs. Using the cutting board, which he was able to reach, he tries to get the steaks that are resting on the counter waiting to be cooked. His parents' voiceover makes the whole scene even funnier.

"The steak out and imma grab it and imma eat it," the pretend dog voiceover said. "Ooooh, I can't wait... this juicy steak. Nobody sees me, I'm sure."

The pretend voiceover for the pup then attempts to strategize exactly how he will get the steak since it's just outside his reach. And when he realizes his mom's watching, he turns his head to her, pups his tongue out, and smiles like he isn't just being sneaky.

"Plus, it's his house. We're just living in it," the video's caption joked. And in the comment section, people also had loads of fun with it.

One wrote, "I have a mini that can reach countertops. No dish towel or cucumber, or leaf of lettuce (his fave snack) is safe!"

Another shared, "My Aussie somehow got an entire half-filled casserole dish off my counter without breaking it or making any noise. It's still a mystery to me."

Someone else added, "Explains what happened to my pizza."

One joked, "My client has nothing to say, no crime was committed, steak remained unharmed."

Someone explained, "I am So glad mine doesn't go after counters. She does wait right under us for scraps to fall, though."

Australian Shepherds Are Clever Dogs Who Love to Work Hard

In the clip we saw just how persistent Booker the Australian Shepherd was in trying to get the steak off the counters. It was just out of his reach but he still kept trying and probably only stopped because he saw his parent watching.

But his temperament is pretty consistent with the Australian Shepherd breed of dogs who are described as being "smart, work-oriented, [and] exuberant," according to the American Kennel Club .

"Aussies are remarkably intelligent, quite capable of hoodwinking an unsuspecting novice owner," the club explains, which is exactly what we saw Booker do, and that's hilarious.

"In short, this isn't the pet for everyone. But if you're looking for a brainy, tireless, and trainable partner for work or sport, your search might end here."

These dogs love hard work so don't expect yours to give up too easily if they, too, are attempting to steal your dinner off the counter.
