PLYMOUTH TWP. (WWJ) — Metro Detroit drivers are dealing with a Friday afternoon traffic headache after a crash involving a cement mixer.

The crash happened around 3:10 p.m. along northbound I-275 near Ann Arbor Road in Plymouth Township.

It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, but MDOT cameras show an overturned cement mixer blocking traffic on the freeway, which remained closed at Ford Road more than an hour and a half after the crash.

Authorities have not said whether anyone was injured in the crash.

Officials are telling drivers to seek an alternate route to get around the crash and closure.

Michigan State Police officials said late Friday afternoon the closure was expected to remain in place until about 5 a.m.
