'We've Got A Plan!' Cowboys' Dak Prescott vs. Lions

The Dallas Cowboys' red zone issues aren't new in 2024, and there have been instances where Dak Prescott and Co. have been efficient in punching it in for a touchdown, but against the Pittsburgh Steelers, those struggles reared their ugly head.

Dallas only converted one of its four red zone trips in Pittsburgh and ranks 22nd (46 percent) on the season for converting red zone trips into touchdowns. While the Steelers offense didn't offer too much of a threat, the Detroit Lions, who are up next for Dallas, do.

As such, quarterback Dak Prescott knows the importance of cashing in when the offense gets the chance.

“It's very important to score touchdowns," Prescott said. "We've been able to move the ball, but knowing how powerful their [Lions] offense is, we've got to get in the end zone, give [Brandon] Aubrey a break. We've got to put pressure on these guys, we've got to capitalize on those opportunities, and coming off a game where we were once again able to move the ball and get down there, we've got a good plan to cap it off and put it in the end zone.”

It couldn't be simpler for the Cowboys.

The only item that should be on the offensive menu is touchdowns. Field goals won't get it done, not against this Lions team that is fresh off hanging 42 points on the Seattle Seahawks.

Additionally, the Lions offense has over 350 yards of total offense in every game this season, so the Cowboys know that Dan Campbell's team can score points.

While having a weapon like Brandon Aubrey is the envy of the NFL, he would only see the field on extra-point attempts in an ideal world. But Aubrey already has 16 field goal attempts in five games (converted 14), which, for Dak, is clearly too many attempts.

If the Cowboys are to make it three wins on the bounce, then Aubrey can't be a big factor for the offense. They need touchdowns, not field goals.

    And Dak knows it.
