49ers avoid case of deja vu on injury front with good news on three stars of win over Seahawks

The San Francisco 49ers got very positive news on the injury front the day after their primetime road win over the Seattle Seahawks , with three of the big contributors to that victory avoiding problems that will keep them on the sideline for the long term.

Jordan Mason, the NFL's rushing leader who had 73 yards on the ground against Seattle, is listed as day-to-day with an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder.

Meanwhile, rookie safety Malik Mustapha is also listed as day-to-day with a low ankle sprain.

Mustapha had an interception of Geno Smith on the first series of the game but was replaced by veteran George Odum after leaving the game late in the second quarter.

With the extra rest they will enjoy over the weekend, both Mason and Mustapha would appear to have a decent chance to playing next week in a rematch of last season's Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs.

It appeared as if it would be a case of deja vu for the 49ers when head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed in his Monday conference call that kicker Matthew Wright had dislocated his shoulder when making a tackle on a kickoff late in the game.

Wright made his debut for the Niners against the Seahawks, having been signed as a replacement for Jake Moody after last year's third-round pick suffered a high ankle sprain making a tackle on a kickoff in a loss to the Arizona Cardinals last week.

But the 49ers will not be forced to sign another kicker on the open market after ESPN's Adam Schefter reported X-rays on Wright's shoulder had come back negative, clearing him to kick against the Chiefs.

Wright was a perfect three for three on field goals and extra points, hitting from 25, 41 and 35 yards out.

The 49ers won't want to rely on him so often against the Chiefs, knowing that they must take their opportunities to score touchdowns if they are to finally beat Patrick Mahomes and Co.

Still, Wright being healthy enough to kick having shown his reliability under significant pressure in Seattle removes an unknown from a game that figures to be critical to the 49ers' belief they can slay the dragon this year.

It isn't clear yet if the 49ers will be able to rely on the rushing threat who has helped negate some of the impact of Christian McCaffrey's absence or the rookie safety who continues to look more and more promising with each passing game. Still, as they rest up for the visit of Kansas City, the 49ers can at least do so safe in the knowledge they don't have to hold yet more kicker tryouts.
