It’s game day for No. 8 Tennessee , as the Vols look to bounce back from the loss at Arkansas while hosting Florida inside a sold-out, Checker Board Neyland Stadium Saturday night in Knoxville. The game is scheduled for a 7 Eastern Time start and can be seen on ESPN.

Tennessee (4-1, 1-1 SEC) got off to an undefeated start through four games, but was upset 19-14 last week by Arkansas. Florida (3-2, 1-1) has won two straight after a 1-2 start winning 45-28 at Mississippi State on September 21 and beating Central Florida 24-13 last week at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville.

The Gators lost 33-20 at home to Texas A&M on September 14 and opened the season with a 41-17 home loss to Miami on August 31. Florida beat Samford 45-7 at home in Week 2.

    The Tennessee-Florida Series

Florida holds a 32-21 advantage in the all-time series against Tennessee, which dates back to 1916. The Gators won 29-16 in Gainesville last season, after the Vols won 38-33 in Knoxville in 2022.

The win at Neyland two years ago snapped a five-year losing streak to Florida. Tennessee won 38-28 in Knoxville in 2016, snapping another run of 11 straight losses in the series. The Vols won three of four between 2001 and 2004, including wins in Gainesville in 2001 and 2023, and won 20-17 in overtime in 1998 on the way to a 13-0 season and the BCS national championship.

Tennessee won the first 10 meetings, between 1916 and 1953, before Florida won two of three between 1957 and 1969. The Gators won five of six between 1976 and 1991 and won five straight between 1993 and 1997.

Billy Napier is 14-16 through 30 games as Florida’s head coach

Billy Napier’s days at Florida could be numbered after this season’s slow start, coupled with a 6-7 record in 2022 and a 5-7 record last season. Napier is 14-16 overall and just 7-11 in SEC play.

Napier is 1-1 against Tennessee, losing in Knoxville two years ago and beating the Vols in Gainesville last year.

After facing the Vols on the road, Florida plays Kentucky at home, faces No. 5 Georgia in Jacksonville and goes to No. 2 Texas. After that it’s No. 13 LSU and No. 12 Ole Miss
