Ole Miss fans receive promising news late on Friday ahead of Week 6 SEC rivalry game against LSU

The Ole Miss offense continues to be one of the most incredible units in all of college football. Heading into Week 6 the Rebels rank second in yards per play, fourth in explosive play rate, and fifth in first down rate. Why are they so good? Part of it is the incredible scheme and plays that Lane Kiffin continues to run as one of the best play callers in the game. But other primary reason is the connection between quarterback Jaxson Dart and star wide receiver Tre Harris.

Dart and Harris have connected for a nation-leading 885 receiving yards in just six games so far. And that's with Harris missing time in two of those contests, getting dinged up with minor injuries. Last week, Harris' status was unknown until late on Friday, but then he immediately burst onto the field for another 81 receiving yards in the first half against South Carolina before going down with yet another injury.

This time around, heading into Ole Miss' SEC rivalry game against LSU there was even more uncertainty around whether Harris would play. Lane Kiffin shared earlier in the week that Harris "wasn't close" to returning against South Carolina and the team was "preparing to play without [Harris]" , so many believed the Rebels might give him a week off. However, according to multiple sources (including Matt Zenitz of 247Sports in his post below), Tre Harris is currently on track to being available against LSU on Saturday.

If this is true then that could mean a huge boost to the Ole Miss offense. Harris has been accounting for 40% of the Rebels' receiving yards thus far, so missing him would leave a huge gap. Even if he isn't 100%, his presence alone should impact how the LSU defense has to attack Ole Miss.

Either way, there's still a good chance Ole Miss fans see a higher rate of snaps from wide receiver Jordan Watkins who plays significantly more any time Harris is off the field. They certainly don't play the exact same role, with Watkins lining up in the slot far more often, but Watkins has shown he can be a high impact player when called upon. Last week alone Watkins caught five passes for 72 yards.

It looks like Harris should at the very least be "available", which is promising news for Ole Miss, but let's hope he's also somewhere near 100%. Otherwise the Rebels' offense might look quite a bit different against Brian Kelly's LSU Tigers.
