What are the three best college football predictions going into Week 7?
Along with a point total call between two struggling MAC teams, and a Mountain West vs a Pac-12 (?) battle, here's the call on the biggest game of the week when Ohio State makes the trip to Oregon.
Here are the top three picks in the ten best predictions against the spread for Week 7.
10 Best College Football Predictions Against the Spread: Week 7, Top 3
I have no idea if this is going to work, but it would be malpractice of me not to at least throw it out there.
Ball State has the nation's second-worst defense allowing 513 yards per game. Kent State has the nation's worst defense allowing 583.2 yards per game. It just so happens that these two kids are at the bottom in scoring D, too - the Cardinals allow 48.2 points per game, Kent State gives up 51.4.
Now, Kent State is also dead last in the nation in total offense, but that should perk up this week.
And once again ... if there's a shot one team can take care of the over by itself ...
Ball State put up 42 on Southwest Missouri State, 34 on Central Michigan, and 42 on Western Michigan.
2. Oregon State at Nevada
Line: Oregon State -3 Pick: Oregon State
Nevada has been a little quirky.
It's playing teams tough, like pushing SMU in a 29-24 loss, it game Georgia Southern a problem in a 20-17 loss, and San Jose State only got by 35-31.
But hopefully you noticed that all three of those games were by three points or more, as was the 27-0 loss to Minnesota.
There's a little bit of a concern that the Wolf Pack are overdue at home, but a 4-1 Oregon State team should come in and come away with a workmanlike win. All four of its victories were by 21 points or more, and the lone loss was to Oregon.
I have been AWFUL with my No. 1 picks in this piece this year. As in not-even-close miserable.
So you have two choices, fade this - ALWAYS ride the trend - or stick to the program because I'm way overdue.
I've been slinging the idea that Ohio State is the No. 1 team in America for the last nine months. It's more talented than everyone else, it has a deeper coaching staff than everyone else - former Oregon coaching legend Chip Kelly comes in as the Buckeye offensive coordinator - and this seems like one of those teams that's not going to be denied.
Yeah, sort of like That Team Up North.
I'll also buy into Oregon when it actually pulls off something big. (The next truly huge win under Dan Lanning will be the first.)
Even if the Ducks pull this off - and I do think they'll get up early - I'm still not wavering from my Ohio State belief system.
If I think the Buckeyes will win - and I do - then the three is no big deal.
