Michigan Wolverines emerge as potential portal destination for talented transfer wide receiver

Former Indiana receiver Donaven McCulley is officially in the transfer portal after announcing last week that he was going to redshirt for the rest of the season and look to transfer.

247Sports reported that McCulley has heard from over a dozen schools since he entered the transfer portal, including the Michigan Wolverines.

Michigan was named alongside Alabama, Ole Miss, Missouri, Cincinnati, Miami, and Colorado. Other schools were Maryland, Baylor, Michigan State, UCLA, UCF, Houston, Cal, SMU, and Virginia Tech. Funnily enough, the Wolverines were also involved with McCulley when he initially portaled at the end of last season before sticking around in Bloomington.

McCulley hasn't been a big producer in new head coach Curt Cignetti's offense (which might be a red flag, given how well that offense has performed), but he has been productive throughout his Hoosiers' career.

A former quarterback turned wide receiver, McCulley has caught 66 passes for 834 yards and eight touchdowns in his career. He brings some good size with him as well, at 6'5, 203 pounds.

It makes sense why Michigan is interested. Their leading wide receiver, Semaj Morgan, has 13 catches for 78 yards and one touchdown on the season . While part of that is quarterback play, nobody has emerged as a reliable option out of their receiver room.

McCulley's talent is evident, given the amount of interest in him virtually right away out of the portal.

It wouldn't be the first time the Wolverines have pulled a player away from the Hoosiers either. Starting quarterback Jack Tuttle spent many years at Indiana before heading to Ann Arbor, and former tight end and fourth-round draft pick AJ Barner also played for Indiana prior to the Wolverines.

Given the lack of talent and likely departure of their best offensive players in the offseason, it's no surprise to hear the Wolverines are already getting involved with a playmaker like McCulley.
