The Alabama Crimson Tide are ushering in a new era. They're playing without Nick Saban for the first time since 2006. Since then, they've come away with a marquee victory over Georgia.

They spent all of a week ranked No. 1, riding the high of the best victory of their season before losing their top-ranked spot. They were upset by Vanderbilt in a game which the Commodores led nearly the whole game.

Kalen DeBoer is going to have trials in succeeding Saban. Following the best head coach of all time is no easy task. Saban set a standard in Tuscaloosa that DeBoer will have to adjust to in time.

After the upset loss, the Crimson Tide are set to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks on their home field. Something the program is learning this season is how to control their emotions. Saban had that team prepared -- not just for the scheme -- but also emotionally so they could keep their heads. DeBoer hasn't been able to do such this year.

On ESPN's "College GameDay," Kirk Herbstreit talked about the Crimson Tide's struggles in year one of DeBoer's leadership.

"This team, this year, they're more busy talking to the opponent and the opponent's fans than they are about executing. That's all brand new, in my opinion, about Alabama," Herbstreit claimed.

Herbstreit was able to make his point in front of Saban and the rest of the "College GameDay" crew before leaving the show to hit his flight from Eugene, OR to Dallas, TX to join the broadcast of the Red River Rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas.

For Alabama, DeBoer needs time to bring in his own roster and control the culture and environment in the locker room.
