How Jennifer Lopez 'complicated' her divorce from Ben Affleck by paying for most of their house

Perhaps Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck should have gotten a prenup .

The couple are divorcing after two years of marriage. Jennifer filed last August and the divorce proceedings have been anything but smooth as they never signed a prenuptial agreement so the courts have to decide how the assets will be split.

One of the assets J.Lo and Ben are dealing with splitting is the house they bought during their marriage. Entertainment attorney Tre Lovell of The Lovell Firm shared some insight with The Mirror US into why this might be.

He told The Mirror US: "The primary issue of divorce will be community property, which is all property acquired during the tenure of the marriage absent certain exceptions. Purchasing a home during the marriage will constitute a community property asset."

The multi-million dollar mansion was bought by the couple together but Jennifer allegedly put more money into it than Ben did. According to Tre: "When it comes time to value the asset and determine community property interest, factors such as appreciation, who put the bulk of the downpayment down on the house, who made the monthly mortgage payments, who paid for renovations, etc., are factors that will be considered when doing a forensic valuation."

"Thus, if she put the most money down, it may complicate the process in terms of agreeing to a dividing money and assets that may be community property," he added.

Ben reportedly left the house when the two split, which according to Jennifer's divorce filing was in April of this year. The mansion is reported to be around $68 million.

Negotiations are allegedly tense between the former lovers. According to the Daily Mail, the couple "have been trying to hash out a settlement for months."

Jennifer is also allegedly "out for blood" after the divorce because she feels Ben was the one who gave up on the relationship. She also thinks that he was "mooching" off of her.

"Ben took so much money out of her, at least that's what she's saying," an insider shared, "She's adding up all those private jet bills she puts on her plastic, the hotels, and meals, clothes, coffee runs, gas."
